Usetyenziso
In Xhosa culture, married women may not use certain words. Instead they use "hlonipha language" in which they replace these words that they may not use with others that are allowed. This comes from the requirement to respect the senior men in the husband's family. For example, if a woman's father-in-law is called "Manzi", the wife will use the word 'imvoto' instead of 'amanzi' when referring to water. Boys being initiated into manhood also have their own "hlonipha language".
